What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional medicine that dates back over two thousand years. Fine needles are inserted into specific points, which connect to meridians and restore the natural balance in the body. This system of medicine integrates mind, body and spirit to get to the root of the disharmony and support your individual needs. Each session is tailored to create a unique treatment using acupuncture needles and the possibility of complimentary modalities, such as cupping, guasha, electro stimulation, ear seeds and red light therapy. Acupuncture can be used as a preventative medicine, for acute conditions, chronic conditions and for optimizing health and wellness.

Acupuncture Offerings

  • Initial:

The first appointment lasts 90 minutes (adults) or 60 mins (kids) and consists of a detailed history taking regarding your lifestyle and overall health, pulse taking and tongue analysis. This is followed by an acupunture treatment. All traditional acupuncture treatments include acupuncture and the possibility of complementary modalities such as: moxabustion, guasha, cupping, e-stim, red light therapy or ear seeds.

    Follow Up:

A follow up treatment lasts approximately 60 mins (adults) or 30-45 mins (kids) and includes an acupunture treatment and the possibility of complimentary modalities - such as cupping, guasha, ear seeds, electro stimulation and red light therapy.

  • Supporting miscarriage, abortion, birth preparation, breech positioning, postpartum, lactation, and all things related to pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

These appointments are 75 minutes for the initial visit with a 60 minute follow up visit.

  • Cupping (30 mins) involves using suction cups over areas of tension and stagnation to improve blood flow, detoxify, decrease pain, easy muscular tension and stimulate the lymphatic and immune systems. The cups may be stationary, or may be slid over the area we are working on. After cupping you may have circular marks or skin discolouration over the area that was treated. This usually only lasts a couple of days and does not create any pain or lasting damage.

  • An acupunture treatment that focuses on the face, whether this be for acne, graceful aging, melasma, sun damage, skin care or any skin condition. The state of your health is reflected on your face, as such this treatment not only supports your skin to look radiant and glowing, but also supports your internal systems. Cosmetic Acupunture supports the natural production of collagen and elastin, releases tension from muscles that are overused, and tonifies muscles that are underused, stimulates blood flow and leaves you with glowing, even, radiant skin!

    Initial:

The first appointment lasts 75 mins and involves a history taking, facial acupunture treatment with many very small fine needles in the face and a few select points in the body to target the internal systems. This is followed by the application of Celluma Red Light Therapy for approximately 30 minutes. An organic hydrojelly mask is then applied followed by a facial massage and facial guasha treatment.

    Follow Up:

A follow up cosmetic treatment lasts 60 mins and includes facial and (select) body points, Celluma light therapy and facial guasha. A hydrojelly mask may be added for an additional fee.

  • Light therapy or phototherapy is the application of specific wavelengths of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits for a variety of conditions including skin, pain and hair restoration.

Research has shown that light emitting diode (LED) or phototherapy can increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, improve acne prone skin, skin tone, texture and clarity, decrease wrinkles as well as ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm and arthritis.

Celluma light therapy is added to all cosmetic acupuncture treatments as well as to traditional acupuncture treatments for pain management.
